REVIEW: Nothing But Tea – Liu Pan Shi Red Oolong (2014)

Tasting notes:

Dry leaf: The dry leaf consists of full, curly leaves that have a sweet aroma. When the leaves are added to pre-warm crockery, a roasted aroma is exposed

Infused tea: The tea cups out a golden-coloured liquor with a sweet aroma. It is a light to medium-bodied tea with virtually no astringency. The flavour of the liquor has a light roasted body, but the finish and aftertaste are dominated by sweet, honey-like notes

Infusion tips: You can prepare this tea gong fu or Western style. Use 85 to 90C water and infuse two to three minutes. You will get three to four infusions

Conclusions: I really enjoy the balance of this tea. The flavour isn’t too sweet, nor too roasted. It really is more on the sweet side of things, and the liquor reminds me of some roasted Taiwanese oolongs I tried a few months ago. For me, the aftertaste is the most impressive quality of this tea. It has a honey-like sweetness that coats your throat and lingers for some time. If you like a sweeter roasted oolong, this is for you

It was not until my early 20s, when I was seeking a lighter alternative to coffee, that I took tea drinking to a new level.
